Lucas Bijlsma – Renovation Support with a Personal Touch

Lucas Bijlsma for Help with renovations

From a young age, I was fascinated by the idea of creating things with my hands. As a 9-year-old, I often spent time in my grandfather's workshop. He taught me how to hold a saw properly and, more importantly, how to let the saw do the work. After high school, I completed a higher education degree and built a career in the business world, with my last role as a strategic buyer at a wholesaler. Throughout this time, I continued to work on DIY projects, renovated entire apartments, and really enjoyed doing as much as I could myself. I also collaborated with other construction professionals, constantly learning new things from them. In 2023, I decided to take the step toward becoming a renovation advisor, offering support for home renovations alongside a handyman service with a network of professionals. This allows me to help people manage their renovation and DIY projects smoothly. For me, it’s the ideal combination—and one I carry out with great enthusiasm.

Why I Offer Renovation Support (Advice)

I’m often approached by people who want to manage their own renovation but aren’t sure where to start. They ask questions like: What’s the best layout? Where should I place the kitchen and electrical switches? How do I match the colors of my new kitchen with the floor? How do I communicate effectively with a contractor? What’s a smart timeline? These are especially common questions among expats.

These kind of questions inspired me to start offering renovation support to a specific group: people who want to manage most of their renovation themselves but need a bit of guidance and advice. Communicating with professionals and contractors requires knowledge, technical language, and insight. For a relatively small fee – especially compared to the total renovation costs – I help you avoid costly mistakes and get the most out of your renovation Quickly and affordably

Why I Offer a Handyman Service

There’s a big shortage of handymen who not only take on smaller jobs but also actively think along during the execution of home projects. The construction sector isn’t always known for clear communication and versatility—that’s exactly where Lucasbouwt, your handyman in Amsterdam, makes a difference.
